Test and Tag is the safety procedure that ensure the safety of the workplace coming into contact into contact with the appliance, minimizing the risk of an electric hazard.
The Australian standard AS/NZS 3760 provides guidelines to the test and tag industry regarding the electric safety of electric appliances. It sets out recommendation regarding the issues such as test and tag interval, who can test and tag.

Industries like construction, mining and demolition are required to get their appliances tested and tagged every 3 months. This is because of the harsh nature of work in the industry is likely to damage equipment at a faster rate. For each 3 months of testing, the test and tag colours will change for different periods throughout the year which makes certain months coincide with a specific test and tag colour.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act 1989 provides a duty of care to provide a safe working place. Failure to maintain or use electric equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s conditions may result in injury of employee, yourself, or other parties.
